About Me

Kaiden Alderling wields weird fiction in his quest to interrogate the alleged monster in the mirror, playing with the fact of being painfully human in an era of shifting, surveillance-driven technology. A Canadian author and artist who lives in Treaty 7 territory in Calgary, Alberta, he enjoys exploring the mountains, playing tabletop RPGs, and writing unsettling adventures that leave no survivor unchanged.

What I write

I'm drawn to stories about the vulnerable edges of the oppressive status quo, to lush descriptions, to tricksters, and to the quiet, dawning horror when you realize that the monster wasn't what you thought it was, and that nothing will ever be the same. I write for that special moment where a character is no longer able to cut themselves off from the ability to feel, and might even find themselves with the ability to act—for better or worse.

Anything might happen next, but in the moment, we are alive and we are here, and we will tear our way out into the open air with our teeth if we have to.

Delicious. Such a crunchy dynamic. TASTY., deliciously ruthless moment, so much fun to see these oopposed perspectives, that line gave me shivers. God they freak me out so badly. I love them, So I'm going insane. I could eat your writing., so much delicious tension, Liars gonna lie, it's very charming, ...fun way to establish these two characters seeing each other, This is enchanting!, BUSTED BY YOUR OWN SCHEME, genuinely really love how fucked up they are, SUCH a good detail, FAE BEHAVIOUR, obsessed with this, loving these contrasts, She's smart and adorable and under all of that scary. I'm obsessed. The way you weave in humour even with...

The Moorwitch meets The Lamb in this chilling gothic fantasy where a fae lord's arrival at a remote manor inspires the young noblewoman forced to act as his servant to discover the true fate of hunters who disappear in the winter mists at the edge of the world.

PROJECT 2: ASSASSINS

The Tainted Cup meets The City in Glass in a genderqueer dark fantasy about seafaring assassins, the bloody desperation to protect one's family, and the cosmic horrors that shape a civilization.

A set of sketchbooks laid out on the ground, including sketches like a woman holding up a lantern, with the comic book style words "...wanted to take as many souls as it could", a few sketches of Venice, a woman holding a bow, vines, some anatomy sketches of musculature on a human body, and a woman holding a drawn bow
