About Me
Kaiden Alderling wields weird fiction in his quest to interrogate the alleged monster in the mirror, playing with the fact of being painfully human in an era of shifting, surveillance-driven technology. A Canadian author and artist who lives in Treaty 7 territory in Calgary, Alberta, he enjoys exploring the mountains, playing tabletop RPGs, and writing unsettling adventures that leave no survivor unchanged.

What I write
I'm drawn to stories about the vulnerable edges of the oppressive status quo, to lush descriptions, to tricksters, and to the quiet, dawning horror when you realize that the monster wasn't what you thought it was, and that nothing will ever be the same. I write for that special moment where a character is no longer able to cut themselves off from the ability to feel, and might even find themselves with the ability to act—for better or worse.
Anything might happen next, but in the moment, we are alive and we are here, and we will tear our way out into the open air with our teeth if we have to.

Novels I'm working on
PROJECT 1: GOTHIC
The Moorwitch meets The Lamb in this chilling gothic fantasy where a fae lord's arrival at a remote manor inspires the young noblewoman forced to act as his servant to discover the true fate of hunters who disappear in the winter mists at the edge of the world.
PROJECT 2: ASSASSINS
The Tainted Cup meets The City in Glass in a genderqueer dark fantasy about seafaring assassins, the bloody desperation to protect one's family, and the cosmic horrors that shape a civilization.
